Envergure glossary
Everyday vocabulary in aviation maintenance, airworthiness and supply chain as used in Envergure.
Maintenance and airworthiness
- Aircraft maintenance programme (PEA)
Top-level reference grouping every maintenance programme applicable to an aircraft or a fleet. Approved by the authority.
- Maintenance programme (PRE)
Definition of the maintenance cycle for a module or component: limits, intervals, operations. A PEA aggregates several PREs.
- Applied configuration (CA)
Actual state of the modules installed on an aircraft at a given point in time. Differs from the theoretical configuration (AEP) when waivers, modifications or evolutions apply.
- Product evolution architecture (AEP)
Reference structure of an aircraft type or engine family. Defines theoretical employment points and the variants allowed.
- Work Package (WP / OT)
Batch of maintenance operations to be executed, usually triggered by a due limit or a user request. A WP groups several tasks.
- Work dossier (DT (French: Dossier de travail))
Operational dossier that materialises a maintenance intervention: order, expected operations, removed/installed parts, captured technical data, signatures. In practice the full content of a WP/OT viewed as a “documentary stack”.
- Technical data
Measurements, counters, observations, photos or notes attached to a component, an aircraft or a WP. Captured on the field via the Technical data drawer in the UI. Journaled and audited. ⚠ Not to be confused with “DT” — in French jargon “DT” stands for Dossier de travail (work dossier), not technical data.
- Certificate of Release to Service (CRS / APRS)
Formal technical document certifying that an aircraft or component may be returned to service after maintenance. Must be signed by a licensed signatory (AME).
- Aircraft Maintenance Engineer (AME)
Certifying staff: an individual holding a licence and the necessary delegations to sign a CRS for a given scope.
- EASA Part-145
European regulation defining the approval of maintenance organisations. Applies to workshops performing tasks affecting airworthiness.
- CAMO
Continuing Airworthiness Management Organisation: entity responsible for keeping an aircraft airworthy throughout its operational life.
- EMAR / FR
European Military Airworthiness Requirements, transposed into French national rules. Defence-side equivalent of EASA for military aircraft.
- Identified service load (CSI)
Identified, planned and traced work on an aircraft. A specific kind of WP linked to an operational event or a modification programme.
- Cycle / landing counters (CSN / ISN)
Fatigue counters: Cycle Since New, Cycle Since Installed, Cycle Since Overhaul. Track real component usage to trigger scheduled visits.
Identification and nomenclature
- Part Number (PN)
Unique manufacturer identifier for a part type or module. A single PN may have multiple physical instances (Serial Numbers).
- Serial Number (SN)
Serial number, unique for each physical instance of a serialised component (turbines, computers, etc.).
- Amendment
Definition index of a part reference (A, B, C…). A given reference may exist in several amendments, carried on the serial number (an instance is built to a given index). Distinct from the modification level (
modLevel): the amendment is the build index, while modLevel tracks the embodied MODs. Ordered (a higher index is a compatible replacement), optional on the instance. May drive configuration applicability and maintenance limits.
- NATO Commercial and Government Entity (NCAGE)
Five-character code identifying a manufacturer or a supplier in the NATO nomenclature. Envergure displays part numbers as
PN:NCAGE.
- ATA chapter (ATA)
Air Transport Association: standardised classification of an aircraft’s systems (ATA-21 air conditioning, ATA-32 landing gear, etc.). Used for tasks and documents.
Standards
- S1000D
Modular technical documentation standard (Data Modules). Used to produce interactive illustrated manuals.
- S2000M
Logistics data exchange standard for aviation materiel provisioning. Covers the M-processes.
- S3000L
Integrated logistics support standard (LSAR). Defines support analysis based on supplier specifications.
- S4000P
Standard defining preventive maintenance programmes. Reference adopted by Envergure to model PREs.
- S5000F
Operational feedback standard from operator to industrial. Closes the reliability loop with the product design office.
- S6000T
Training and training-need analysis standard derived from technical data. Still rarely implemented.
- Minimum Equipment List (MEL / CDL)
Minimum equipment list: equipment whose inoperability is tolerated for take-off under operational constraints.
Supply chain and operations
- Stock Item
Physical instance of a part or module present in the stock. Identified by PN + SN (if serialised)
- current storage location.
- Storage Type
Logical location type of a stock item: general warehouse, quarantine area, test bench, installed on aircraft. Drives permitted transitions.
- Technical reception
Workflow that brings a component into stock after technical control: documentary conformity (EASA Form 1), physical inspection, capture of initial counters.
- Container vs Employment Point
Container: a module that hosts sub-modules (turbine, computer). Employment Point: a functional slot on the aircraft (pilot station, avionics bay).
- Air-gapped deployment
Deployment without any outbound Internet connectivity. Each remote instance runs autonomously and resynchronises when connectivity is restored.
- Instance (Tenant)
Isolated data perimeter for a customer or site. Each instance carries its own aircraft, stocks, programmes and actors. Identified by a ULID in the
X-Instance-Idheader.
- ULID
Universally Unique Lexicographically Sortable Identifier: 26-character Crockford base32, sortable by creation order. Used as the primary key in every Envergure entity.
